Most of the repairs we do in Tralee are the small things that stop a bigger job going ahead: hairline plaster cracks over doorways, nail pops and screw heads coming through, blown patches where a shelf came off the wall, split skirting, sticking doors, loose handles and hinges, cracked caulk lines along architrave and coving. None of them are big on their own. All of them show through a fresh coat of paint, which is why they get dealt with before decorating rather than after — see interior painting.
Older terraced property near the town centre needs a lighter touch. Lath-and-plaster and lime-based walls crack along movement lines and want a compatible, flexible filler rather than a hard cement patch that will simply crack again at the edges of the repair. In the 1970s-1990s estates around Oakpark, Ballyard and Cloonbeg the usual pattern is decades-old fixings, tired caulk and doors that have dropped on their hinges. Newer builds around Manor West and Clash are mostly settlement cracking in the first years, which is normal but still needs filling correctly before it is painted over.
Kerry's climate creates its own repair list. High humidity and salt air mean swollen internal doors that catch on the frame in winter, corroded fixings, and blown or damp-stained patches on north-facing external walls where water has been getting in. We look for the cause before we patch — filling a damp patch without fixing what is wetting it just moves the problem a few months down the road. Where the underlying issue is damp or mould rather than a broken surface, we say so; see mould treatment in Kerry.
For landlords, agents and short-term let hosts this is usually snagging work against a deadline. We work from your list or walk the property and produce one, quote it in writing, and do it in a single visit where possible — the €60 minimum covers up to two hours of labour, so bundling several small items is far better value than calling someone out per item. Photo documentation of each completed repair is included, which is what deposit disputes and agent handovers actually need, and repairs can be paired with an end of tenancy clean so the unit is handover-ready in one appointment.
- Pre-paint prep: cracks, nail pops, blown patches, caulk lines and loose fixings dealt with first.
- Flexible, compatible fillers on older lath-and-plaster and lime walls, not hard cement patches.
- Cause checked before patching — damp and mould identified rather than filled over.
- Snagging lists done in one visit with photo documentation for agents and deposit returns.
